Loose Leash Walking Program
6 weekly sessions
Loose Lead Walking Program
Walks should be enjoyable, not a daily battle. This program is designed for dogs who pull, zig-zag, lunge forward, drag their owner, become distracted easily, or struggle to stay connected during walks.
The Loose Lead Walking Program focuses on building better communication between dog and handler, improving engagement, teaching calm lead skills, and creating a walking routine that is more controlled, enjoyable, and practical for everyday life.
Sessions are tailored to your dog’s current skill level and are completed in and around your home environment, allowing us to work on the exact walking challenges you are experiencing.
What We Work On
Step 1: Initial Assessment
We begin by assessing how your dog currently behaves on lead. This helps us understand why your dog is pulling and what needs to change first.
Step 2: Building Engagement
Before we expect calm walking, we need your dog to understand that paying attention to you is valuable. This creates the foundation for better walking because your dog learns that the walk is something you do together.
Step 3: Teaching Lead Pressure
Many dogs pull because they have never been clearly taught what lead pressure means. We teach your dog how to respond to the lead in a calm and fair way. The goal is to create clearer communication through the lead without turning the walk into a struggle.
Step 4: Calm Walking Foundations
Once your dog understands engagement and lead pressure, we begin building loose lead walking skills. This stage helps your dog learn that pulling does not get them where they want to go, but calm walking does.
Step 5: Managing Distractions
Real walks include real distractions. We help your dog learn how to stay calmer and more connected when the environment becomes more exciting. We teach practical strategies to manage these situations without your dog completely losing focus.
Step 6: Handler Skills and Confidence
Loose lead walking is not just about the dog. Handler timing, consistency, and lead handling make a big difference. The aim is to help you feel more confident and in control during everyday walks.
Step 7: Practical Walking Routine
We help create a walking routine that suits your dog, your lifestyle, and your goals. This makes the training easier to maintain once sessions are finished.
Where Sessions Take Place
Training is completed in and around your home environment. We start where your dog can succeed, then gradually increase the difficulty as their skills improve.
Program Goal
The goal of this program is to help you and your dog enjoy calmer, more connected walks.
By the end of the program, you will have a clearer understanding of how to communicate with your dog on lead, how to manage pulling and distractions, and how to continue building better walking habits long term.
