Barking Minimisation Program
4 weekly sessions
The Barking Minimisation Program is designed for dogs who bark more than their owners can comfortably manage. This may include barking at people, noises, other dogs, visitors, neighbours, movement outside the home, or when left alone.
Barking is communication, so the first step is understanding why your dog is barking. From there, we build a practical training plan focused on calmness, structure, alternative behaviours, environmental management, and helping your dog settle more easily.
Program Structure
Session 1: Barking Assessment, Triggers and Immediate Management
We begin by understanding when, where, and why your dog is barking. The goal of this session is to understand the cause of the barking and reduce opportunities for the behaviour to keep being practised.
Session 2: Calmness, Routine and Alternative Behaviours
Once we understand the triggers, we start building calmer routines and teaching your dog what to do instead of barking. The aim is to give your dog a better option, not just tell them to stop.
Session 3: Visitor, Doorbell, Noise and Trigger Practice
This session focuses on the common real-life triggers that usually cause barking. The goal is to create a predictable plan for moments that usually lead to barking.
Session 4: Alone-Time Barking, Real-Life Practice and Long-Term Plan
The final session brings the training together and creates a realistic plan for ongoing improvement. By the end of the program, owners should have a clearer understanding of why their dog barks, how to respond, and how to keep building quieter, calmer behaviour over time.
